Quick Start Guide

This Quick Start Guide helps you set up your first Range Rules Question & Answer set. It’s not a full tour, but it will provide you with the fundamentals you need to explore the platform confidently.

How it works

Range Rules guides you through a simple, step‑by‑step workflow where each part of your content connects to the next-much like branches in a family tree. Once you understand how these relationships fit together, the entire system becomes intuitive, organized, and easy to use.

You should have:

The sign-up process uses the same secure verification steps common to modern online systems, and your account is created once those checks are complete. These one-time setup tasks-may feel unfamiliar if you’re not on a computer often, but they follow the standard security practices used across online platforms today.

If you’re already comfortable with typical sign-up workflows, you can skim or skip this beginning section of the guide.

Note: You only complete these set up security steps once, and the participants who use the content you published will not need to go through them.

From the main home screen Click: SIGN UP NOW as shown in the first illustration below.

Sign up image

The Sign up for Range Rules screen will be displayed. Complete the Sign up form following the step-by-step guidance provided on yor screen. For simplicity, not all fields are displayed in the images published in this guide.

Note: This guide will often refer you to reading the comprehensive step-by-step guidance provided on every screen.

The first field is your Primary organization name. Next is your Primary coordinator email address. This is an important email address as it used as your login name as well as for account administrations tasks.

Complete the remainder of the form, address, etc..

⚠ Importent: Read and acknowledge the Terms & Conditions of Use (link to Terms & Conditions of Use is provided at the bottom of the Sign-up screen).

Upon agreement with the Terms & Conditions of Use, press Continue.

If there are problems with the information you entered you will need to correct the errors.

Note: The most common problems within the sign-up process are misspelled cities, state not capitalized and incorrect zip codes. All details must match your location exactly, including correct spelling and capitalization. These checks are intentionally strict.

If everything checks out you will move to the next step. The next screen will ask you to check your email, as shown below.

The Manage access form will change and look like the below image (the green email sent message will disappear).

Enter the passcode in the top field. In the next field, create your new coordinator password, then re-enter it in the Confirm password field to verify. Click the small “eye” icon to show or hide your password as you type.

Be sure to remember this password-you’ll need it to access the system in the next steps and going forward.

Click: Continue.

Note: If you weren’t able to finish signing up by creating your password, you can restart the process at any time. Open the Coordinator dashboard login screen by clicking the gear icon at the top of any page, then select Login help. Choose 'Set or reset my password,' enter your Coordinator email, complete the 'I am a human' check, and click Continue, to try again.

Caution: If you do restart the process, it will trigger a second passcode to be sent. If the first email arrived slowly you might have more than one passcode email in your inbox. Make sure you use the most recent one.

The Coordinator dashboard login screen should be displayed with your email address already in the email field (like below). Verify your Coordinator email address and enter the password you just setup and complete the 'I am a human' check.

Press Continue.

Note: The values shown are for example only, you need to use your own email address and password.

If you see the screen below,

Congratulations - your Range Rules account is set up successfully!

Your Subscriber ID will be unique to you.

Note: If this screen does not appear, please repeat the steps above and carefully verify the information you enter. If you received more than one passcode email (by re-sending the email), be sure to use the most recent one. You can also try resetting your password by clicking the “Login help” button on the Coordinator dashboard login screen. If you continue to experience issues, please contact us for assistance.

You are ready to begin building your first Question and Answer set.

Click "Design introduction, question and answer sets."

The first step in creating your content is to describe your organization.

Click "Step 1: Describe your organization."

Your Range, Agency or Organization Name here image

Range Rules is built on a series of parent-child, one-to-many relationships. Your organization sits at the top of this structure and can contain many Q&A sets. Each Q&A set has its own General settings and can contain many questions. Each question, in turn, can have many possible answers.

Note: At any point, you can click "Progress guide" on the screen to see exactly where you are within this hierarchy.

Once you Cick Describe your organization, the screen for creating your name, headline, and story content will appear as shown below.

Take a moment to read the guidance text on the screen and complete the three required fields: your range/agency/organization name, your lead‑in headline, and your storyline.

Note: The name you used when creating your account may be the same name you use here. The key difference is this: the name you enter here is the one that will appear in your Question & Answer set, while the name used during account setup is never displayed to participants.

Range Rules includes ready‑made example text for most fields. Just click “⏵Examples” and select any sample you want-the text you choose will automatically populate the field, ready for you to edit it however you like.

The custom copy you enter here appears at the top of your landing page behind “Begin knowledge check” and is the first thing your participants see. Complete your profile as thoroughly as you can.

Note: Don’t worry about getting this perfect - you can revise it anytime. Most content creators refine their content through a natural cycle of Create → Review → Edit → Review → Publish → Evaluate. Choose one of the predefined labels, modify one, or create your own.

When done, Click "Continue"

Notice the "Blue" menu item text has changed to the text you entered for your range, agency or organization name in the last step.
Next, you’ll define the lead‑in text and descriptive details for your first Q&A set. This starts with creating a simple menu label which your participants will select.

Click "Add a new question and answer set."

The "Begin a new question and answer set configure general settings." screen will be shown. The first important step is to set up the menu label and introduction message. Start with the preloaded text and edit to fit your needs. This menu label will be displayed on your landing page for participants to select.

Note: Every Q&A set has its own general settings. These settings serve as the header record and define the overall structure and details for the questions and answers contained within that set.

Complete the form fields, each one includes helpful guidance explaining its purpose, so take a moment to review it.

Note: For your first "test" Q&A set, keeping the default options and within Step 6, choosing the “Basic – essential safety rules” pre‑configured template will quickly load content to help you to understand how the system works. In later steps, you will review each question, and you’ll also see how to decide which answer is considered “correct” by checking the small radio-button next to that answer. This is an important part of the creation process-you, as the Content Creator, define what is correct or incorrect within your Q&A set. Range Rules simply records the responses and displays the results based on the choices you designate.

⚠ Importent: At Step 6, select 🕮 Examples to review the Ready‑Made Templates and read the section titled “Use of Example and Ready‑Made Templates.”

Once you have completed all the steps on the form, Click Continue.

Congratulations, you have just completed your first Range Rules Question & Answer set!

The next screen you will see shows the "Basic – essential safety rules" pre‑configured template of questions and answers in edit mode that was loaded from the last step.

You can click on any question to edit it and/or the accompanying answers. The questions shown are for illustration only and your actual questions will differ.

Notice the blue button at the top of the form "Manage general settings" this is where you can edit the settings you configured in the previous steps. If you kept the default options, this Q&A set should be in Draft mode as noted on the screen.

Spend a few minutes browsing your questions and answers and getting familiar with the editor.

Notice the green “Testing” button in the below image. Selecting it opens a new browser tab showing all your Q&A sets and configured content exactly as your participants will experience it. From there, you can choose any Q&A set from the list to run through and test. If your browser blocks the new tab, you may need to adjust your popup settings to allow it.

As you review your questions, remember that you control all of your instructional content. Make sure everything you publish reflects your standards for accuracy, legality, and appropriateness. Range Rules simply delivers your material - Range Rules doesn’t evaluate or approve it. You decide which answers are ‘correct’ by selecting the radio button next to the one you want.

All other answers will be “incorrect.” This step is entirely up to you as the Content Creator; the system records and displays results based on the choices you configure.

The image below shows an example question with one answer marked as correct using the radio button, the others will be incorrect.

Now that we have built a Q&A set, let's test it. There are several ways to access your Q&A set-both for your own testing and for distributing it to participants.

Click the green button on the screen "Test Q&A set."

Acknowledge the prompt: "This will open a participant‑view preview, exactly as they will see it in a new browser tab. Continue?"

Follow the screen prompts and complete your Range Rules Q&A set.

Options for accessing and testing your Q&A sets.

Your Q&A sets have a single unique access code, and that’s all anyone needs to open and select one of your Q&A sets. You’ve probably already seen this code displayed at the top of the Q&A Designer screens.

Note: Don't worry about someone guessing your unique access code, its a 1 in 16.7 million shot and there are other measures in place to prevent guessing.

Click the little gear at the top of the screen and return to the Coordinator dashboard.

From the Coordinator dashboard, you’ll find additional Q&A access options as shown in the illustration below.

If you select "Share question and answer sets with participants." you will see the RapidFire QR code, the direct-access hyperlink, and the access code all in one place. An option to email the access code directly to your Coordinator email address is also available by selecting, "Reset your password or retrieve your access code."

You can also choose “Test question and answer sets” for guidance on testing your Q&A sets.

RapidFire QR Code and Q&A Set Access Options image

Choose any one of the three methods to access your Q&A sets.

1. Access Code: Copy the Access Code displayed on the form. To use it, return to the Range Rules home page, select “Begin knowledge check,” enter the code, and press Continue.

2. Direct Link: Click the link shown on the screen to go straight to your available Q&A sets.

3. RapidFire QR Code: Scan the QR code with any mobile device camera (iPhone or Android) to go directly to your available Q&A sets. This is especially useful in classrooms or during range‑entry exams, where the code can be printed or displayed on a screen so participants can access your content instantly without typing anything.

🚨Importent:
If you are logged into your Coordinator account, you will see and can test all of your Q&A sets.
If you are not logged in, you will only see Active Published Q&A sets - exactly what your participants will see.
Clicking "Test drive Range Rules yourself" from the home screen disconnects you from your coordinator account and you will need to login again!

RapidFire QR Code example screen image

After accessing your Q&A sets, your screen should look similar to the example below. Note in this example there are two Q&A sets, one is marked "Active and the other is in "Draft" mode.

What appears on your screen will be your own content from previous steps, so it won’t match the examples shown here.

Active vs. Draft Question and answer set image

Note: Your participants will only see Active Published Q&A sets and the "- Active" marker will be removed.

From here, simply select your Q&A set.

You’ll first see the standard prompt: "Please enter a name or unique identifier""

(e.g., nickname, first name, alias - do not use personal or sensitive IDs)

If you chose to collect participant information-such as an email address-you’ll be prompted to enter it before beginning.

Select your Q&A set image

Work through the Q&A set as your participants would. When you finish, you’ll reach the final results screen, which will look similar to the sample image shown below. Again, your screen text will be what you set up so it won’t match the example shown here.
